Motto: Our life, our well-being and our progress can derive from the rest of the means after we have ensured responsibly successful continuation of the world and humanity.
Timeless society is such a society, which corresponds to natural life. Social order of a timeless society will have two sources of rules: Traditional rules, (old and newly created) and rules derived from the natural order, better put introducing of the natural mechanisms and setting the rules of them by the social order (e.g. the rules of the functioning of the market). The requirement for values is manifested less and less. In Jesus’ time people would hardly understand the word “freedom”, it was certainly used in a much narrower meaning and they would not understand if it was used in a motto. In the period of enlightenment people understood freedom as a general human value. Today the values will be even more complicated because the reality is more complicated and we would have to try hard to make these values clear.
Because people did not give up substantial influencing of the processes taking place on our planet with their reason (the era of reason is not yet finished), they have to feel belonging with other creatures and their continuity. Belongingis therefore the main method of the activities inside of a society and the campaigns influencing the world so that selfishness and abuse of competences over natural objects does not prevail. The motto for political campaigns is belonging, continuity, balance. These are the main values of the human spiritual space, something like freedom, equality and brotherhood in the past. These values are of course more complicated than the previous ones, because the time is more complicates. The motto does not have to be timeless, people living in a timeless society as the only possible continual society do not have to consider this motto important and they might create a new one, especially if the values expressed by the motto become a commonplace.
1/ Belonging with the people, belonging with other living reality of the planet and with offspring
2/ Aware efforts to ensure continuity of the nation and the biological and cultural civilization and conservation of natural objects, creating timeless society
3/Balance of the main social values (rights and obligations, competence and responsibility, justice, punishment as damaged balance etc.), balance of the competition and belonging; effort to find harmony and removing the extremeness of values
Belonging – is achieved by restrictions, which will be listed below. It is assumed generally that people will gain belonging in conditions that are created in the ideological and materialistic area. Moderation of competition and increasing belonging is achieved by rooting. Rooting in home represents emotional and physical background and shows implicitly most of the traits of belonging. Physical background is realized especially with dominance of livelihood based on local resources bringing independence and cooperation with known people with visible and impressible results (this is the opposite of Marx’s disjunction and disjunction itself, where there is cooperation with unknown people within the global market with unpredictable results). Rooting usually removes ideological thinking because it sets general thinking: effort for unification of common interests of the local people, and by this is promotes natural life (Scruton calls this the “neighbourhood society”).
Belonging has three forms:
Belonging among people: This is the political belonging (municipality, family, citizen society) and educational belonging (education in the sense of compositional values: unity of the community, solidarity of the work collective, family, altruism, faithfulness, gratitude, reciprocal help).
Belonging to the live reality of the planet (ecology): These are educational restrictions (the approach of a “satiated predator”, the farmer caring for the needs primarily locally without imports and with minimum non-renewable materials) and ecological restrictions within rooting.
Belonging with the offspring: This means providing the conditions for families and ensuring that they are created by people of a suitable age. Education and culture in a paradigm promoting reproduction, healthy lifestyle and complex concept of work, a space for vital naturalness, revival of the healthy vitality.
If unnaturalness is caused by disjunction as the main and a substantial phenomenon, the first assumption of efforts to ensure timeless society is to stop the process of disjunction and set the process of belonging. Belonging represents the harmony in many areas, especially harmony of emotive and merit relationship of each individual. If disjunction was turning back from the cosmic criteria, the nature, our own vital naturalness, from people and from the society, then belonging is the opposite of this. However what I call belonging must be complete, a segment of belonging with the cosmic order is manifested by timeless thinking.
There is partial belonging among the people, collective solidarity would actually mean returning to old humanism, which has been overcome and which lead to extreme nationalism and communist regimes because it was in fact also partially disjuncted from the natural order, however it obeyed the generally declining traditional rules. It would be a return only to individualism without responsible relationship to the future and the whole cosmos.
Belonging returns to Christian love, but development never returns completely, it only gets closer to the old paradigm. In Christ’s period there was no pollution, there was no problem with overpopulation and dying out, there was no problem with decomposing of communities and there was no problem with freeing people from their vital essence. Love is a part of belonging. However belonging is more general because the world became more complex and the tasks of people are also directed towards belonging with the nature and the whole cosmos. This is not a place for an expression of love because in nature people act more like administrators, they are forced to kill certain creatures and manipulate with others. Love has to accept freedom. But freedom can be only for people, not for animals.
Belonging is understood generally within space and time. Therefore it has to exist not only among people and create natural communities, but also belonging to the nature and the whole cosmos. Belonging has to have a timeless character – belonging with the offspring and future natural objects. An English Conservative philosopher E. Burke expressed timeless belonging as a “partnership” – “…a society is a partnership not only between the living but between the living, the dead and the yet unborn.” Belonging also means what in Russian tradition is called “sobornosť” (aggregation) which means some kind of agreement between the people, spiritual connection and proximity. It can hardly be based on anything else but identity with the community and a certain mutual dependence of people. We cannot rely on some “spiritual enlightenment of crowds” creating belonging without work and automatically, we know well that only individuals were enlightened and only they could become prophets and leaders. Although I think that if Christianity is to be the leader of the revival, it needs a new prophecy but especially it needs to claim belonging because of the reasons I stated and it has to be general, complex and holistic. But the most important thing is the understanding that material life is not bad, without the body the soul would have nowhere to dwell in, work and fulfil God’s commands. Unfortunately old religious agendas are adapted to the period before the point of unnaturalness, their appeals on refusing the material property have been heard only occasionally, they did not have to care about the life itself because people had not overcome natural principles yet. Today the spiritual efforts have to be directed towards conservation of life otherwise they do not fulfil their mission. Current distance of people from Christianity can be caused by the fact that it does not speak the way the age requires. Here I do not mean adapting to the ideas of unnaturalness, however people will find out that Christianity does not fight unnaturalness with productive methods or it creates only cultural built-in. Often prevailing idea that the body is wrong and that it is necessary to mortify it with the help of spiritual life only, also contributes to unnaturalness.
Belonging among people also includes a communication society. Habermas (see 79) claims that overcoming the current disjunction can be reached via communication of individuals. Today we have perfect means for that (e.g. the Internet). I do not think that these means will carry out the revival but I also do not consider them being a setback. The technological means themselves do not create anything. The discourse society dealing with ideas and discussing is more than needed. In a democratic society there should prevail thought such as political programmes. I do not think that most of the people would discuss them, they will have their own problems with making a living and they will care only about narrower topics. Again this would be about recognizing the right leader. Relying on communication to solve everything is wrong.
Belonging with objects outside the community – the nature, has to be based on a new awareness of belonging, which rather corresponds to the expression of “friendship”. It is obvious that belonging is not and cannot be an unnatural value, to love animals more than people or to love the cosmos more than the mankind, and if this were not the case, we would live in utopias and unnaturalness. Another two values are continuity (timelessness) and balance (harmony) that are implicitly natural principles and will remain in a timeless society because natural mechanisms will take care of them. They create the aim for action and restrict the meaning of belonging. Continuity gives direction to belonging so that it is really complex also towards the future, in order to prevent creating some hedonic communities without responsibility. Balance ensures that belonging does not become order and that it works only as the oppositional value of disjunction.
Rooting is influenced by synergies of belonging, the continuity and balance. Because people are rooted in the lowest level of the structure of the society – families, municipalities, the society and the citizen society – it is necessary tat the lowest communities get the highest competences and responsibilities. Families should get the competences and responsibilities connected to the social area (care for the old and sick people). If the families are not able to ensure this, then there is the municipality, which also should have economic and social competences, which means its own taxes. A short feedback without unnecessary elements would strip the state off an extensive social network created by disjuncted people as a substitution for their family relationships, solving disjunction from their loved ones. It will increase the deciding competences of the citizens. These restrictions are not new, they have been here in the past, they are conservative and natural and they use the identity with the community and local awareness independent on manipulative media. In the economic area we then have to introduce the same – independence on the global market, autarchy, local market including partial energetics from local sustainable resources. If the municipalities would work well, democratic competition can substitute the market competition and the municipalities can own companies. However in a free society this would develop independently.
The ethos of timelessness comes from the same natural vital concepts as ecology, because it is in fact ecology widened to include people, it is a new ecology of the European civilization, which is the one most harmed by unnaturalness. It is about finding an efficient way of a modest and quality life connected to work and living in a clean environment with renewable resources. This together with rooting of people in their homes can be connected into a phenomenon of complex rooting in a biosphere.
Including the timeless philosophy into practice within a harmony will cause destruction of the concept of capitalism and socialism. Restrictions that are timeless promote the market but not as an idol, also some restrictions that can be called socialist, can become parts of the timeless philosophy but not based on egalitarianism and relativizing, rather only within the range of perfect justice supported by those, who work for the society, which is not assessed directly according to earnings in the market (e.g. motherhood). Also fusing of business and care for employees, is desirable (see Bata) and it should not impair economic results, on the contrary.
In a politically correct society there will be healthy, well-mannered children professing moral values. These children would be primarily valuable products because their work will influence the future prosperity and their parents will have to be rewarded for their work. Therefore moral values will gain more value unlike the material values spontaneously, including the tools of their creation.
I do not think that timeless politics should strictly refuse any projects of a different life and solve everything by returning to older schools. For example: If the feminists would have a project focused on how to allow motherhood and upbringing of children of 2-4 years of age without suffering in a complete family and simultaneously fairly even the fate of both sexes, such a project does not have to be considered unnatural. However I cannot imagine the current feminist opinions, often saying that family is a tool of the male domination, being in coherence with timelessness. I will anyway introduce timeless feminism, where women would require recognition of their maternal role as being important for the existence of the society. Due to this women can become the primary contributors of the ideas of timeless humanism.
Mixing of human ethnicities is necessary to ensure the quality of population and preventing degeneration. Communities will be suitably separated to be able to compete with their different examples and create a diverse world with peaceful competition. Therefore it is necessary to maintain local cultures and put pressure on the immigrants to ensure they adapt. Individual racism is against the naturalness and it is a product of disjunction and it is necessary to eliminate it within “providing opportunities to everybody”. In terms of the needs of the community it is necessary that the immigrants overcome certain problems, like those, who had to go over the ocean between Europe and America.
The state takes care of safety, the laws; it supervises the society and carries out only the necessary services (schools, railroads, roads, energetics etc.). Organs superior to the state (the EU) should have only such competences that are necessary for outer defence and ensuring mutual safety among the states, or decide about disputes and coordinate the common laws accepted on the base of pragmatic considerations (so that there are no unnecessary differences). It is necessary to maintain the sovereignty of the state and the nation or their lower levels representing nations. It is necessary to conserve diversity and competition of models for imitation. It is a part of the world cultural competition. Universalistic tendencies to destroying political units creating unified world of consumption and indifference must not be supported.
It is necessary to remove unnatural bonds of the modernistic state, which has too much responsibility, which it cannot manage and creates unnatural environment (people rely on the state with everything, the state even ensures “protection of investments” and other weedy affairs that bring blackmailing and non-functioning). The competences of democratic structure of the state are superior to all other power influences. It is necessary to face citizen associations of the worldwide character that often bring their power and therefore the interests of hidden power groups to local places. This does not men xenophobia towards all foreign influences but it is necessary to recognize a power influence, which usually promotes foreign cultural elements via enforcing or introducing the interests of power subjects. Otherwise citizen associations and local political parties are a part of the political democracy and plurality of power. Direct democracy has its place in the democratic system, but it can be executed best in a municipality where the people can decide with the knowledge of the affair and where the people are also responsible for their decisions. In most of the communities however the balance of competences and responsibilities is not set, people usually do not know the problems in detail to be able to decide directly and responsibly and deciding can become irresponsible and media manipulated. It is better to have a representative democracy with electing rather well-known people than parties.
If there is no timeless thinking present, ecology will not be taken seriously in a society. In current modernity it will still be only an annoying burden, it will never get inside the spontaneous process of unnaturalness, because it is essentially natural. Foolish efforts to fuse ecology with the social process of unnaturalness lead to abusing ecology for the economic interests and for various meaningless unnatural outputs. Left-wing relativist and egalitarian opinions that are put forward to the ecologists, having the aim to limit human birth rate with unnatural life and make space for natural subjects, do not lead to an aim – they will ruin both the people and the nature. Birth rate must not be limited by unnatural life in disjunction from the natural principles, only in coherence with these principles.
In current unnatural world ecology will not be a commonplace, but only a anti-system power influenced and bureau-driven, unacceptable and often foolish requirement. This is because individualists and relativists are not able to understand timeless thinking of ecologists. People, who became “perfect and unmistakeable” must not admit that they do anything wrong and that they should adapt to natural principles. Anti-naturally oriented culture (see 1) is a culture of unnaturalness based on people as Gods. Current ecological activities promote the rise against the natural principles in the society (multiculturalism, feminism, individualism), but suddenly when it comes to nature they criticize it and completely selectively, their thinking is timeless only in this case. They act confusingly and they are manipulated by various entities, because they do not have a fixed and strong timeless idea, which would apply generally. They succumb to chaotic, specific, usually superficial opinions. However people will still be predators and they will never change. It is only possible to raise and cultivate the predators. Aware belonging with the nature and creating the conditions for post-material life without material growth will allow this. Rooting in a home helps this phenomenon, exploited people act confusingly and ideologically concerning these issues.
It is necessary to express myself also in terms of post-materialism. Post-materialists voluntarily refuse material consumption; therefore they live a materially modest life and recognize other values of life, probably those, that are connected to ecology or a different form of self-realization. Post-materialism however does not have to be a timeless idea, because it can contain the hedonistic face of consumption. People therefore can be lazy or just use this idea to be able to refuse responsibility for the family and the society, which means also responsibility for the future of the mankind.
Also the appeal of monsignor Antonín Huvar, well-known in its time: “Let us think about what we do not need” is right only in terms of timeless thinking, generally we do not need not only material means but also the family or the children. We could leave to live in a monastery and become a very religious last generation of the mankind, despite all the unnaturalness of such behaviour, according to Christian measures everybody would be saved and everybody would go to heaven.
Big financial subjects easily manipulate people without material needs and their reactions are usually left-wing opinions directed towards communist projects. Physical materialism is wrong only if it excessively uses material means and therefore wastes them. Taking care of material reserves is right and responsible, it promotes rooting, it is necessary to secure the family and create environment of political freedom via material independence of individuals. Otherwise the idea of post-materialism is right and timeless.
People should behave like a well-fed sleeping lion, which does not care about the antelopes around him. It would be unnatural if the well-fed lion hunted the antelopes in some kind of pathological vision of a constantly increasing infinite well-being (increasing the quality of life or other modernistic nonsense). Lion will not have these unnatural preferences, however people in an unnatural life have them (not in a natural life). If people are to behave like well-fed predators, they have to lead a post-materialistic life, they have to have visibly limited resources in their environment and they have to influence their reproduction with these resources. This is a part of the concept of rooting.
Timeless post-materialism helps overcome consumption and teaches people the art of modest life, which however in a timeless range requires connection with work, responsibility, starting a family and creating reserves of means – in short it is directed towards rooting, it is not only a delirious campaign.
It is possible to reach timeless politics using the pre-political preconditions. I will list only those things that can be seen today: A constitution including the obligations of citizens and governments to ensure physical and cultural continuity of the nation (the constitutional nation). Balance of rights and obligations, balance of competences and responsibilities is another part of the constitution. Subsidiarity and direct democracy connected to it, in small political wholes and pressure on rooting is also important (see further). Currently this means strengthening the responsibilities and competences of municipalities in the area of their own taxes, the home right and the social and investment area. Of course this is just the beginning but today we cannot see further into the future.
